    Directing and Pre-Production

    Instructor: Ted Bezaire

    Ted Bezaire

    This course will cover the key elements of the crucial stage of pre-production that occurs before the camera starts rolling. Topics will include budgeting, scheduling, script breakdowns, and the use of shot lists and storyboards to achieve your vision. Students will learn how to navigate the pre-production process and set their projects up for success.


    Post-Production & Music Video Funding and Distribution (Separate Courses)

    Instructor: Gavin Michael Booth

    In Post-Production, class participants will be introduced to the incredible creative power that post-production provides the filmmaker in the following areas: picture editing, sound editing, sound mixing, music, colour correction, and visual effects.

    In Music Video Funding and Distribution teaches how funding can come from the community, private fundraising events at the media arts centre, corporate sponsors, the government, and private investors.

    Having a firm strategy to distribute your music video is important in today’s marketplace.


    Music Video Production

    Instructor: Walter Riggi

    Participants start by learning the “mechanics” of film trailer production: directing, editing, production management, and cinematography. Then participants apply these skills by actually producing their own movie trailers! You not only learn “how” to make a movie trailer, but you also learn the process of creating original trailers, using your unique vision.


    Scoring Music for Film

    Instructor: Ian Smith

    This hands-on introductory course will allow participants to learn how to use the elements of music to enhance the various emotions and actions within a story or scene. They will learn the process of scoring a film from beginning to end starting with the spotting session to the delivery of the music to the client. The participants will also learn to utilize a Digital Audio Workstation, Logic Pro X, as they compose music for various scenes ranging from Romantic Comedy to Action Suspense and more.


    Film Funding and Distribution

    Instructor: Gerry Lattmann

    In this course we will arm you with the knowledge to help you make a smart choice when choosing a film distributor and how to prepare your film for worldwide film distribution.

    Whether you have a feature film or documentary, we have you covered. Knowledge is power, and this course will add more tools to your filmmaker toolbox.


    Set Building & Set Design (Separate Courses)

    Instructor: Bill Rawlings

    In Set Building, participants will be introduced to the basic techniques and procedures for set construction and setup. They will also learn how to use tools and equipment common to the scene shop and the stage, including rigging and electrics. Safe working procedures in both the construction and setup phases will be emphasized.

    Set Design covers basic techniques of the principles and practices of set design for the stage. Emphasis is on interpretation of the literature, research, development of the ground plan, and the presentation of ideas. Included are design functions, construction, painting, modelling, history, and theories of design.


    Acting in Film and Television

    Instructor: Sarah Booth

    This class introduces participants to screen acting. It covers different methods of acting, delivered in hands-on fashion. Participants will be engaged in practical rehearsals, getting a chance to act off of one another and receive expert feedback.

    Topics include adapting to non-sequential shooting, working with film crews, and the differences in acting between on-location, in-studio, green screen, and ADR. The course also touches on script analysis and how to convey emotions and actions effectively to the camera.

     


    Costume Design

    Instructor: Elizabeth Bloomfield

    This class is designed to give you an introduction to both hand sewing and machine sewing. You will learn how to read and manipulate patterns, and how to apply that knowledge to actual garment construction. There are many practical applications for the skills you will learn, such as repairing clothing, making costumes, or altering garments for a better fit. This course will open a world of new possibilities either for fun, or as a first step to a future career. This class is a great start to your creative journey!


    Makeup Artistry

    Instructor: Stephanie Johnston

    In this makeup artist course, participants study stage makeup theories and principles, employing facial anatomy, lighting, venue size, highlighting, and contouring to design and execute makeup applications for live performances.

    How to Create a Podcast (Seniors 55+; All Welcome Pending Space)

    Instructor: Lori Baldasi

    This course provides conceptual and hands-on experience for your individual idea of a podcast. Students will learn to develop a concept, record themselves and/or interview partners or hosts, and then do all the audio post-production needed to create a professional podcast.


    Intro to Artificial-Intelligence, Digital Art, & Cryptocurrency

    Instructor: Michael Cohen & Co.

    Learn the fundamental concepts of:

    • Setting up a digital wallet
    • Analyzing & assessing cryptocurrencies
    • Creating & distributing digital art by using AI

    Corporate Video Production

    Instructor: Peter Freele

    This course will allow participants to develop professional skills in video, film, and television (pre & postproduction). The course covers the fundamentals of video production, including the techniques and aesthetics of shooting, lighting, and editing.
