This course provides conceptual and hands-on experience for your individual idea of a podcast. Students will learn to develop a concept, record themselves and/or interview partners or hosts, and then do all the audio post production needed to create a professional podcast.

Recent events have taught many of us how important social connections are to our emotional and physical wellbeing. Our new media and arts program for retirees and seniors (Ages 55+) is a unique and exciting way to learn a new skill, develop a long-lost talent, and share your stories using media such as film, audio or traditional writing. We are proud to be able to offer you accessible and flexible programs that will fit your needs.
All of our programs and services have been developed based on extensive community feedback. As we evolve and grow, so will our programs. Take a look at what we’re able to offer you, and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to email or call.
As a senior, having a sense of purpose is never more important than once you’ve retired. When your days are no longer limited by work, what better opportunity than to explore long forgotten creative dreams? That’s why the media and arts program for retirees and seniors program was launched. We’re here to offer seniors like you an opportunity and the resources to express yourself and enrich your life.
Discovery
Discovering or rediscovering an old talent helps keep our minds sharp and healthy and the active pursuit of cognitive engagement has been proven to slow cognitive deterioration significantly. No matter your biological age, there is always an opportunity to learn something new and you can achieve any goal you set your mind to.
Discovering Your Talent
We offer a short introductory workshop to help seniors and retirees discover their interests and start on the path to exploring opportunities available through our media and arts programs for seniors and retirees. This workshop will introduce you to all the centre has to offer, and the resources available to help fulfill your goals.
Teaching & Mentoring
Do you have a background in media arts or the creative arts? There are eager minds both young and old who are looking for your life’s experience in the field and this is your opportunity to share your legacy. Simply contact the centre and let us know what you’d like to offer.
Telling Your Story
Each of us have a story we’d like to share and there are so many ways on how it can be shared. Each course provides you access to all the resources you’ll need to be a success, from mentoring to equipment and computer programs. These programs offer multiple courses to choose from to tell your story including writing, producing and/or publishing:
- Autobiographies
- Short Stories
- Authorship
- Poetry
- Screenplays
- Short Films
- Feature Films
Skills Building
Discovering a new skill or sharpening an existing talent can build your confidence and help you to take control of your life. Through this program you’ll have access to courses and workshops offered by experts in their field. The media and arts program for retirees and seniors programs is an opportunity to expand your horizons, explore your talent and share that talent with others.
Computer Basics
You don’t need to be an expert in navigating how to use a computer and the doors it can open for you, but some basic skills really help! This program offers hands on basic skills with one-on-one support from mentors who can guide you through your apprehension and help you make the most of what you hope to accomplish. And, the resources you find here will be available to you in any other program you wish to take.
Photography & Film
You don’t need to be an expert in navigating how to use a computer and the doors it can open for you, but some basic skills really help! This program offers hands on basic skills with one-on-one support from mentors who can guide you through your apprehension and help you make the most of what you hope to accomplish. And, the resources you find here will be available to you in any other program you wish to take.
Since 2012, we have been teaching students ages 8-18 about various topics relating to filmmaking and photography. With the help from our staff of our graduates and current students apart of the University of Windsor Communication, Media and Film program and various St. Clair College programs in journalism, graphic design, animation and more, this program will offer a variety of courses on filmmaking and photography including:
- Shot Composition
- Photo Editing
- Screenwriting
- Directing
- And more!
Music
From songwriting to music production, this program offers courses that will support you in discovering, rediscovering and developing your talents in music. With access to all the equipment and resources, you can choose from courses such as:
- Composition
- Arrangements
- Production
Behind the Scenes
Are you more of a backstage person? Interested in anything that goes into the final results of a film or video? This program offers courses in:

Connecting Socially
Stimulate your mind. It’s important for each of us to keep busy at any age, but as a senior it can make all the difference in the world to have something fun and stimulating to do with our time. Especially if it builds our connection to others with the same interests experiencing similar challenges. The media and arts program for retirees and seniors offers the perfect environment to interact with those who share similar interests while building a sense of accomplishment that comes from reaching a goal.
Open Air Cinema
Beginning in 2014, we started offering Open Air Cinema each summer. Since these are intergenerational events, we select classic family movies that a great for all ages.
Movie Nights
Watch for postings about movie nights .Our facility is accessible so there should not be any reason to stay at home alone when you can enjoy a good movie and popcorn with friends.
Garden Parties
Our first annual garden party was held in 2017, and included a silent auction, live music, hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and much more! These delightful, outdoor parties were not only a way to connect with friends and colleagues in the Windsor community, but also to let it be known that we can accept charitable contributions to help cover the cost of for equipment and for education bursaries.
Oscars Nite
In February 2015, Oscars Nite events became a signature fundraising event for Film Camp for Kids & Youth. All ages came dressed up – ready to enjoy a great meal, win prizes, made bids on auction items, and cheer on Oscar nominees. We sincerely look forward to reinstating this terrific event in our new facility. After all – it’s for the kids!
Game Nights
Board games are fund for all generations. MACC has shelvesfilled with games that families and friends can enjoy. We have a great variety – and we keep them right next to the kitchen where coffee, tea and snacks can usually be found.
Volunteering
Once we’re retired or semi-retired, it’s easier to withdraw from community-based activities which can lead to isolation physical, mental and emotional challenges. Networking and building social connections whether through shared projects or shared learning is an opportunity to expand your network of like-minded people.
- Youth & Young Adult Education
We are always looking for guest speakers within the film, musicor creative arts industry not only our film camps for children and teens, and also our Lunch n’ Learns, conferences, master classesand webinars for our post-secondary students and graduates, as well as retirees and seniors. Where possible, we try to offer an honorarium. - Costume & Prop Rooms
Film Camp for Kids & youth has a growing costume room that is coordinated by volunteers, and new to our list of amenities is a prop room. We are also looking for persons interested working with young people on costume design and prop making. We occasionally need volunteers to scout out garage sales and/or pick up donations.
Plugged In Seniors & Youth
Our Plugged-In Seniors & Youth program began in 2018, as a way to connect retirees and seniors with youth. The program is a win-win. They play board games together, and, as requested, our youth volunteer to teach retirees and seniors about computers, cameras, tablets and social media. Other classes we offer within this program include art, music, photography, writing and film.
Special Events
We offer a variety of special events, including book readings, poetry readings, stand-up comedy, talent shows, luncheons and dinners, movie screenings, conferences and so much more! If you have a creative talent you would like to present, or just want to help behind the scenes with planning, kitchen duty, set-up and take down, or anything in-between, we are always looking for help!
